peaks välja vahetama P35 kiibistiku, võttes sealt üle kõik head omadused ja lisades uusi. Samas peetakse uut kiibistikku tulevaste 45nm kahe- ja neljatuumaliste protsessoritele teerajajaks.

Nagu P35, toetab X38 nii DDR2 kui DDR3 mälutehnoloogiaid. Lisaks toetab X38 Intel Fast Memory Access ja Turbo Memory tehnoloogiat ning uut Extreme Memoryt. DDR3 kiirus on ametlikut 1333MHz aga seda saab overclockimisega oluliselt tõsta. Intel ise kinnitab, et X38 on võimeline DDR3 kiiruseks saama isegi 2.13GHz.
